Chris Coetzee: Johannesburg

by Chris coetzee
(Johannesburg)

I am a fifty something male. I have been retrenched twice and have had to deal with this and the availability of decent work opportunities for people my age.

I remain positive and I am considering becoming a life coach as I believe that I have a lot to offer others in terms of my business experience and own life skills.

I am interested in having a session with a trainee life coach to help me take this decision.

seeking fulfillment

Dear Chris
You are to be complimented on taking action. This is one of those turning points in life and I am sure we both hope something great will come of it.

Coaching is one of those careers which sounds like a nice thing to do, not too hard and the money rolls in. However, in reality it is pretty much the reverse. I do not know how you came to be interested in coaching but before making the investment which is required, why dont you go to the CSIR or even an educational psychologist and find out your natural gifts? You will do better and be a lot happier doing more of what you are naturally good at, and those are the people who are truly successful at what they do.

Think bzck to your young years, what really grabbed you then? Was it sport? (consider becoming a sports coach) was it getting under Dad's old car and fixing things? (do a mechanics course) or was it maybe baking cakes until your mother laughed you out of the kitchen (either do a cheffing course, or just get good at one thing like chocolate chiffon and supply everyone in a 50 km radius.) Yes, you will have kids around you, learning the same thing, yes some of them will be so jolly bright they are amazing, but nothing matters except that you learn your new craft thoroughly.

So I encourage you to go at this with a plan and a clear head. My mother lived through the Great Depression and she said the people who came out best were those who A) would do absolutely anything, like driving a taxi just to remain employed and if unemployed would B) not let a single day go by without applying for another job.

If you think you look old just pop off to a smart salon and get another haircut!!! Wonderful pickup. When you talk to youngsters, just meet them on an equal plain, only you know you have been around longer than they. Some of them are remarkable ungenerational. It is very rewarding to converse intellect to intellect and never mind all the accoutrements.

Well, that's the best I can do without knowing you. Good luck
Wendy

Move to a beautiful season of spring
by: Sace

Dear Chris,

I like to help by holding up an audial mirror to people. With your permission, I am going to comment on some of what you wrote, to give you an indication of how a stranger views your thoughts:

I am a fifty something male.(This person must have a lot of experience, but why are they so hung up on age?-You need to let go of the age concept, or make it work in your favour, e.g.:"I have thirty years experience in...."

I have been retrenched twice (there must have been huge highlights and achievements in your life, yet, you introduce yourself on a new platform by starting with the lowest points possible. What happened to those highlights and achievements? Don't they count anymore?)
I have had to deal with this (drop the victim talk already, it will paralyze you-take 100% responsibility for your life and the results) and the availability of decent work opportunities (happy to see you use the word opportunity-shows you still have spunk, and believe in the impossible and magic, regardless of your very very challenging circumstances) for people my age.(whatis this all about? Should you not rather leave this saying for when you are 90?)

I remain positive (great-keep it up, only allow positive thoughts, speech and writing:Declare WAR on anything else that comes out of your brain), and I am considering becoming a life coach (and now that you know what you want and where you want to take your life-the universe is ready to start pushing you forward, making people, opportunities, general help and assistence available, e.g. this e-mail from a complete stranger)
as I believe (powerful language, powerful!) that I have a lot to offer (massively important-re-write your CV, your CV does not list a 20th of what you have to offer, I know it hasn't) others (using the word others shows your spiritual strength, your wisdom, care and courage) in terms of my business experience and own life skills.

I am interested in having a session with a trainee life coach (good for you, I guarantee if you add action as a follow-up, you will get on track very quickly) to help (important that you realize there is help available as you are doing here-you are very much on the right path) me take this decision. (decide to decide, and stick with it, come hell or high water!)

May God bless you and keep you and hold you and your loved ones. However, you are in charge of the next step, the next decision and the next action. God will bless it, but you have to think it or do it before He can bless it.

To remain whole, find more things to smile about. Do it often. Excercise being happy, and use the word "regardless" as a mantra.

This winter in your life MUST AND WILL move to a beautiful season of spring next. Watch out for this spring, prepare to be more happy, and set your life up to recieve all the good people and things in your life which you so richly deserve. The universe passes it on once it senses that you are ready for it.
