The Course and Course Options
Important Terms to be aware of:
Before registering, please ensure you are familiar with the following general and specific terms that apply to the life coach training course and/or course option you are considering.
Theory
Self-test assignment review
On finishing each of the seven Parts of the New Insights skills training theory, trainees are required to complete a self test assignment and send this, electronically, to New Insights Africa ("NIA")(CLASSIC option) or to their appointed Supervisor Coach (PRO option) for review.
Theory Examination
The New Insights theory examination is sent to trainees by email on a weekday, as agreed to between the trainee and NIA. The trainee is required to confirm that the completed exam is received back by NIA during the course of the same day.
Trainees are required to make a confidentiality undertaking whereby they agree not to share the contents of the exam, or their answers, with any third party.
The examination is marked by NIA and feedback, where relevant, provided to the trainee. A pass mark of 70% is required. If this is not achieved, the exam may be re-written (up to twice) after a further revision period of two months has passed.
Practical Training
Practice Coaching
New Insights certification requires the trainee to undertake 50 hours of practice coaching using the coaching system materials provided by New Insights.
Each practice client is required to complete a simple feedback form for each session of coaching and these forms have to be submitted to NIA (CLASSIC option) or to the appointed Supervisor Coach (PRO option).
NIA reserves the right to contact one or more of the practice clients to validate and/or discuss the coach feedback given.
Supervisor Coaches
VIP Coaches
Coach review of self test assignments and client feedback as well as personal mentoring and coaching competency assessment services (all included with the PRO option) as well as optional 'add-on' coaching services, are provided by New Insights certified VIP Coaches.
VIP – or 'Valued Independent Partner' – coaches are independent operators (not employed by NIA) who contract with NIA to provide these services to its trainees.
VIP coaches have all completed New Insights Advanced Coach Training and received specific instruction in the systems and processes of New Insights and are thus accredited by NIA for this purpose.
Appointment of Supervisor Coaches
Supervisor coaches are appointed at the sole discretion of NIA but trainees are welcome to review the VIP coach listing and state a preference. Wherever practical, NIA will try to meet this preference.
Additional costs incurred by Supervisor Coaches
Where the coach appointed to conduct supervision, mentoring and/or coaching services personally incurs costs not contracted for by NIA, these will be charged directly to the trainee concerned.
VIP coaches have been instructed not to incur any such charges without first getting the explicit agreement of the trainee who should be clearly appraised of the nature, makeup and timing of the charges he or she will be liable to the coach for.
Changing an Appointed Supervisor Coach
NIA undertakes to do its best to ensure that appointed VIP coaches are a good fit for the trainee and competent to perform the services required. To this end, NIA request trainees to submit feedback on their coaches.
In the event that the trainee is substantively unhappy with the appointed coach, he or she may apply to NIA to appoint a replacement coach for provision of the remaining services. Such application should clearly substantiate the reasons for the request.
PRO Option Services
Personal Mentoring
The Supervisor coach will be responsible for providing trainees (PRO option only) with up to ten hours of personal mentoring throughout the duration of their training. Mentoring interactions can occur through one or more of a number of communication channels, including:
telephone and/or Skype;
e-Mail;
SMS;
online journaling;
the Forum;
written letters; and
face-to-face meetings
The assigned Supervisor coach will contact the trainee to agree how best to provide these mentoring services and how the hours will be tracked and reported.
Any costs involved in such interactions, other than the coach’s personal time (e.g. travelling time, telephone costs, etc.) will be for the trainee's account.
It is strongly recommended that the trainee sign up for the Skype service, which ideally requires broadband internet. Skype and/or similar VOIP services are an essential tool in the modern coach's toolkit.
Competency Assessment of Practice Sessions
In terms of the New Insights certification requirements (PRO option) two of the trainee's coaching sessions are required to be supervised.
Occasionally it may be practical for the supervisor coach to attend the actual coaching sessions. However, in most cases this will not be possible and the trainee will be required to arrange to have video recordings made of the specific sessions and a DVD or DVDs sent to the supervisor coach for review. Amateur (home) video is perfectly acceptable provided both trainee coach and practice client can be seen and heard.
Any costs that may be incurred in making the recording and sending it to the supervisor coach will be for the trainee's account.
'Add-On' Coaching Services Package
Trainees choosing Coaching Services add-on package, will receive professional coaching in accordance the New Insights life coaching system which comprises a programme of thirteen coaching sessions.
The trainee can agree with the appointed coach to receive all thirteen sessions as per the programme - or to vary the programme to meet his/her specific needs. However, if coaching extends beyond thirteen sessions by mutual agreement between trainee and coach, the coach will be entitled to charge the trainee directly for the additional coaching time.
Coaching is typically conducted through the medium of the free call service offered by Skype. It is strongly recommended that the trainee sign up for the Skype service, which ideally requires broadband internet. Skype and/or similar VOIP services are an essential tool in the modern coach's toolkit.
In the event that coaching cannot be conducted via Skype and the trainee specifically requests telephone coaching then the cost of any telephone calls will be for the trainee's account.
In some cases, where proximity allows it, it may be practical for the coaching sessions to be conducted on a face-to-face basis. In such cases, the trainee will be required to travel to the coach or the coach's designated coaching premises. Any costs incurred by the coach, in travelling to the client's home or chosen venue, will be for the trainee's account.
Non Refundability of Unused Services
By registering for the PRO course option and/or choosing an upgrade or 'add-on' service package the trainee accepts responsibility for ensuring that any mentoring and/or coaching services included in the option are utilised, in full, prior to completion of certification or completion of the two year period allowed for certification, whichever comes first.
No refunds will be made for services not fully utilised.
