Janette - Alberton

I've just turned 50 and my life is out of control - I'm depressed - My marriage is a disaster - I abuse alcohol - I get used by people because I want to be a 'nice' person and can't seem to refuse any requests even if I have to go out of my way and suffer to help people - I really need to free help - I need to get control of my life and have no idea where to start - Please can someone help?

Hello Janette,
You have already made a brave start to change your life for the better by posting this request for help.
Before you read any further I need you to know that I am not a trainee, nor a qualified coach with new insights.
I can however feel your discomfort just by reading your words. I have been doing the same thing for many years, pleasing everyone around me while my own life went down the tubes.

Remember when we were kids?..
One day we discovered we had to compete with brothers or sisters for mom and dads attention? And we derived at the solution of pleasing them, and so we got the attention we so crave for?
By the time we went to school it was part of our resume and we did the same with teacher and got the attention we needed. And we became famous amongst (some) of the other kids because we pleased them in order to fit into the crowd.

We got the attention we needed, but the price we paid was loosing our own identity along the way.
And as the years went by we no longer knew we were doing it. It happened on auto pilot.

You have been brave to stick it out for so long!
But in the mean time you feel the emptiness inside, and no matter what you do, nothing seems to fill it…

I drank until I dropped. I shopped until my pockets were empty. I worked until my fingers bled. And I did a lot of other things until I could do no more, but the emptiness sat there like a big gaping hole in my gut…
Nothing I did on the outside could fill the big hole on the inside. And the more I pleased the more I pained.

The road back to ‘self’ is the most courageous journey you can embark on.
You may feel your life is out of control, but in essence, you have reached the point were you are ready to start listening to your heart. The very next situation were you feel you are about to please is the best place to start.
Stop in your tracks for a moment and think about it, and do the thing your heart tells you. You will not believe the good energy that will come from it. And you will not believe how much your loved ones will love you more because of it.

I truly hope you find a coach soon. You were born with a gift and the time has come for you to bring it through.
No matter how ‘out of control’ it feels at this time, you have taken control by posting your mind.
