New Insights Life Coach Training Frequently Asked Questions
We aim to answer most of the questions that prospective trainees may have in our comprehensive – and complimentary free report. If you haven’t yet requested this report, please do so by clicking here:
Here are some of the questions we get asked most often, along with our best attempt at answers:
Who is this course designed for?
The New Insights Life Coach Training Programme is designed for all types of people and is particularly suited to:
People who are passionate about helping others live to their full potential and who want the tools, techniques and structured coaching programme that enables them to do that most effectively and affordably and with integrity.
People who are passionate about their own personal development and who are searching for personal freedom, confidence and growth in their lives.
People who want to run a small business that offers a fulfilling and rewarding career, that can easily be run from home with very low risk and overheads and that offers an excellent return on investment.
People who want the flexibility to study and train in their own time and at their own pace rather than as and when the training institute dictates. This includes people already in full time employment, stay-at-home parents, retirees with a busy agenda, people removed from major centres, people who work unconventional hours, and so on.
Is this Programme a home study course, or an online/e-course?
The Programme is not an online course, although we do provide a number of excellent support facilities that are accessible online.
All the printed and digital material that goes to make up the course content is delivered directly to you upon registration and it’s your to keep – so you don’t need to worry about downloading material from the Internet or trying to read and study online.
The Programme is, in part, a home study course because you are able to study and review the learning material as and when it suits you.
However, no life coach training course worth its salt would be complete without adequate practical application and the New Insights Programme requires you to conduct substantial practice coaching with at least fifteen different people who are required to submit feedback.
Can I be assured of buying a high quality Programme?
Definitely.
Our mission is to bring greater personal freedom, confidence and self-growth to people from all walks of life and we do this through training and developing a network of successful and effective life coaches that will be a force for good in the world.
Our slogan is “Your Success is Our Success”. We know that we can deliver on our mission only if we train quality coaches – and that requires a quality Programme.
When can I start the Programme and how long does it take?
Once you have registered with us and purchased the Programme material, you start whenever you like. You can get going the minute the box arrives on your doorstep or you can start at a later date, when it suits you.
Because of the nature of the Programme, how long it takes you to complete certification is really dependent on you. As a guideline you should allow between 9 and 15 months, depending on the option you choose and the amount of time you can dedicate to the Programme – but you have a generous two years within which to complete certification.
What level of support do you offer to your trainees?
We recognise that support while you train – and when you start your new coaching business – is really important and we pay a lot of attention to this.
With New Insights you’ll be made to feel like part of a family. You can contact the New Insights team any time you want as often as you want with as many questions as you want for as long as you’re a New Insights trainee. We’re only an e-mail or telephone call away.
In addition you’ll have online access to our Forum specifically for our trainees and coaches. It’s a goldmine of useful information, advice and support that you can tap into at any time, day or night.
You’ll also get free access to Journal@New Insights, a state-of-the art online journaling and social networking platform for trainees and coaches from around the world.
We regularly share our database of trainees and certified coaches to encourage networking – so you’ll never have to feel alone.
And don’t forget that we are always in contact with you via our weekly newsletter that is full of inspiration, hints, tips and advice.
Bottom line - we want you to succeed!
What makes New Insights different from other coach training institutes?
For one thing we eat, breathe and sleep life coaching. That’s our business, pure and simple – and we’re passionate about what we do.
Our philosophy is to offer top quality training that is tailored to our trainees (we prefer the use of the word ‘trainee’ to ‘student’ as we’re not an academic institution. We aim to provide training that is highly effective, yet convenient, flexible and affordable.
Unlike many other institutes we also provide a tried and tested, structured coaching programme, with all the coaching session notes, for you to follow with your clients.
And another thing that differentiates us is the support that you get to plan, establish and market – and succeed in – your life coaching practice once you start out.
Who accredits this kind of training and do you carry such accreditation?
The term ‘accreditation’ when applied to life coaching and life coach training courses, can be very misleading and needs to be put in context.
There is no regulatory authority governing life coaching or life coach training in South Africa at present (the situation is the same in most countries), though there are a number of self-regulatory bodies that represent the industry in the US, Europe and elsewhere.
Each of these have different ‘accreditation’ policies and standards which can be somewhat confusing. In addition these are not necessarily a guarantee of coaching ability.
New Insights has chosen to work within the emerging frameworks and guidelines that are of most relevance within South and southern Africa (and which we believe are of a world-class standard!)
We are registered as coach training institution members of the Coaches and Mentors Association of South Africa (COMENSA) – the preeminent representative body for coaches in this country – and we are one of the proud founder members of the Coach Education and Training Association of South Africa (CETASA).
Although COMENSA does not currently ‘accredit’ coach training institutes, we have structured our certification requirements to follow their guidelines for obtaining practitioner coach membership.
When all said and done, our focus is on producing life coaches that can and do make a real and positive difference in the world. It is our firm belief that the ultimate form of 'accreditation' takes the form of glowing client testimonials!
Will the New Insights certification equip me to coach internationally?
We believe that the New Insights Programme and certification requirements are more than adequate to ensure that those who choose to train with us are equipped to offer professional life coaching services with pride anywhere in the world. Indeed, there are New Insights trained coaches practising successfully all over the world.
Is New Insights represented anywhere else in the world?
Yes, we have a UK sister company, New Insights Life Coaching UK Limited that offers the same Programme and services there.
Their trainees and coaches share some of the online facilities available to our South and southern Africa customers, meaning that you will be in international company if you join us!
If the Programme material is mine to keep when I register, can I re-sell it or transfer it to someone else at a later date?
No. The Programme material is intended solely for the use of the trainee who registers with us.
We do not condone on-selling or giving away of the material and will not provide certification or other support to anyone who purchases Programme material other than from New Insights (or a licensed distributor).
In special cases, where the certification process has not yet commenced, we may agree to the transfer of registration to a member within the trainee’s direct family but this will require our express written approval.
Is there sufficient demand for Life Coaching?
In one word, YES!
More than ever before, people are looking for ways to gain personal fulfillment and happiness in their lives.
No longer are people prepared to put up with stressful, meaningless or mundane lives just because ‘that’s the way life is’ or because ‘that’s the hand they were dealt’.
There is a revolution happening with more and more people starting to question their purpose in life.
That’s where Life Coaching comes in – by helping clients to understand their purpose and to overcome obstacles to greater joy and happiness.
The time has never been more right for Life Coaching in our country and in our world.
Can you offer assistance with marketing my services once I have qualified as a New Insights certified coach?
Yes. Once you have become certified you are eligible to subscribe to our exclusive online Life Coach Directory where you can post a detailed profile of your background and services offered.
You can also choose to take out coach membership of our online Journaling platform, Journal@New Insights. This will open up all sorts of possibilities for you, from tapping into the extensive database of client members for coaching leads, to setting up your own e-courses and managing your coaching clients.
Once you have completed certification with us you are also eligible to use our certified coach identifiers in your email signatures and on your website, marketing material and stationery.
There are many other ways in which we seek to promote and support our certified coaches through mutually beneficial arrangements.
Don’t forget too that by registering as a trainee you automatically get four excellent business support manuals as part of the Programme material. These contain a wealth of ideas and advice on planning and marketing your practice and selling your services.
Why do you offer two Programme options?
It's part of our ongoing quest to give our trainees more flexibility. It also provides those trainees who want it with an upgrade path.
We have been marketing the Classic option ever since we started out in 2007. As a life coach training and certification programme it represents outstanding value for money.
More recently we decided to introduce the Pro option for those trainees who wish to take their certification to another level, by including coach mentoring and supervision services and the opportunity to have their coaching competency more rigorously assessed by a professional life coach.
If I choose the Classic option and decide to upgrade to Pro during the course of my training can I do that?
Yes.
At any time during your training (but before you are too advanced with practice coaching) you can upgrade to Pro by paying a Supervision services 'add-on' fee.
Do you offer further upgrades beyond the 'Pro' coach certification?
Yes.
We have two further levels that you can aspire to:
Elite coach status which requires you to have been coached through the full New Insights programme by one of our VIP Coaches and to have attended our two-day Advanced Coach Training workshop.
VIP Coach status which is by invitation only to those Elite coaches who wish to partner with New Insights in offering supervision, coaching and training services
Is any form of certification really necessary or can I still practice as a coach without it?
Because life coaching is unregulated, pretty much anyone can set up a practice, whether or not they have been formally trained in the discipline.
The difference is that ‘self-made’ life coaches have a far greater risk of their practices failing because they lack the tools, techniques, structure and support that properly trained coaches have access to.
It is not mandatory for you to complete certification in order to become a practicing life coach – but we strongly recommend it. For one thing it will position you favourably to apply to become a practitioner coach member of COMENSA – which will set you apart from other less professional coaches.
If I take the Pro route can I choose my own Supervisor Coach?
The choice of who to allocate to you is made by New Insights but we will certainly take into account any preferences you may have.
What credentials do your Supervisor Coaches have?
Our so-called VIP (valued independent partner) coaches are all New Insights certified coaches who have successfully completed our Advanced Coach Training workshop and subsequent VIP coach training (which familiarizes them with the New Insights systems and processes).
Although these coaches have trained with New Insights and use our system, they remain completely independent.
Only our VIP Coaches are accredited to perform the role of mentoring and session supervision required for the purposes of Pro certification.
What happens if I fail the theory exam?
You will get a further two opportunities to re-write the exam if necessary. You will be required to wait two months before rewriting it.
Will I be ‘tied in’ to New Insights after I become certified?
No. You will set up a fully independent practice of your own with no liabilities or obligations to New Insights other than to respect the copyright on our material and not to change or adapt our coaching programme (the New Insights Life Coaching System™) without clearly indicating, to your clients, where you have deviated from it.
On the other hand, we take pleasure in keeping in contact with our certified coaches, and partnering with those who are interested in a number of areas.
Simply put, we’re always looking for ways to work with our coaches that offer win-win opportunities for both of us.
Your success is our success and vice versa.
What can I earn as a Life Coach?
That really depends on you and what you want to get out of it.
Some coaches prefer to work part-time to supplement their existing income. They choose to coach just a couple of people a week and make an extra few thousand Rands a month.
Other coaches see this as a full time opportunity and really put everything into their coaching business with the result that they earn hundreds of thousands of Rands a year.
Coaching fees vary depending on the coach’s experience and their chosen target market. Most Life Coaches charge between R350 and R1,500 per session. A “full” coaching practice will include 20-35 clients per week. So assuming you charge R400 a session (coaching private individuals) and maintain 20 clients a week, you’ll gross around R35,000 a month.
To be honest, it’s up to you to make it happen, but we think you can see that the sky is as high as you want it to be.
Can I be sure of getting clients when I start practising?
We’re the ONLY professional Life Coach Training Company that believes in our course so much, that we offer all our trainees a 100% guarantee.
It’s very straightforward:
Simply complete your training and fulfill all the requirements for New Insights certification, following all the guidelines we provide. Ask us for - and act on - any help or advice you may need along the way. Follow and apply our coaching and business support systems… and you will get at least ten coaching clients within twelve months of completing our course. If not, then we will cheerfully refund your investment in the programme... every last cent of it!
Now, we can’t be fairer than that. So, one way or the other that means that you’re guaranteed to get your money back within the first twelve months - providing you put the effort in and do the work required.
By the way, in our experience, our trainees don’t normally need any assistance finding clients when they become certified because they are brimming with confidence and referrals from their practice clients!
However, if you do, we’re always there to help. Simply email us and we’ll do our best to help.
I don't live in one of the major cities. Surely this puts me at a disadvantage?
No, not necessarily.
Are you familiar with the concept of Telephone Coaching? Nowadays, with technologies like Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol or VOIP (basically the ability to make telephone calls over the internet) the idea of coaching by 'phone has taken off because it is so convenient and inexpensive between two people who have this technology. (Ever heard of 'Skype'?)
And don't think for one moment that telephone coaching can't be as effective as face-to-face coaching. Many clients who have been coached by telephone actually love the fact that they can be coached from home without any embarrassment about their looks, body language or handwriting!
So, as a life coach, the world really is your oyster!
